Let's Talk about Stats, Baby, Let's Talk About How to Be...

Is this title too long? Probably. But it's allowed.

Meatbag Slingshot, like a lot of games, has stats: aspects of your person(hood) deemed important for gameplay, usually assigned some kind of value represented with a number. Meatbag Slingshot is no different. The stats in Meatbag Slingshot are as follows:

MEAT: This is your physical stat. Are you strong or weak? Able to run ten miles or need to lie down after getting up? Supremely bendy or snapping and crackling all the live long day? Meat not only includes your ability to do things but to be in physical spaces, how in tune you are with your body and your ability to feel out and judge physical spaces and things. You can use Meat to pick up a huge rock, carry a huge rock or judge if you can pick up the rock to begin with.

BRAINS: This is your mental stat. Brains and other mental stats are kind of funny to play out: like, technically, your character knows everything you know. On top of that is what your character WOULD know, given their life. I'm getting in the weeds but basically Brains is how much you  know, how easy it is for you to take in new information, and make judgements based on facts. Yes, I know emotions happen in the brain. Meatbag Slingshot is not a science book (thank god). Brains also covers your ability to make connections between things and solve puzzles. Dah brains! Yah know? You can use Brains to figure out what kind of rock a rock is, where it's most likely to cleave and what minerals might be found in there that you can sell for a pretty penny.

GUTS: This is your emotional and social stat, as in "Go with your gut." This stat allows you to feel out social situations and keep your composure. Reading the room, deciphering someone's mood, intentions, stuff like that. Guts is used when you're trying to use your instincts in a situation. Guts can be used to feel out who's having a bad day, who is feeling generous enough to give a good price for a freshly cleaved rock and if they're bluffing about the going rate for rocks these days.

This is what you'll have to work with around a table of Meatbag Slingshot. How do stats work when yourself and someone else? That will be the next post. Thanks for reading, Meatbags!
